Principle Function

The HopeKids Coordinator is responsible for co-creating and implementing the ministry vision for HopeKids and family events within the mission, vision, values, and authority structure of Lutheran Church of Hope.

Primary Functions

  1. Working to provide safe, fun and Christ-centered weekend programming for kids through:
    • Creating age-appropriate and highly attractional activities for kids
    • Recruiting, training, coordinating, and supporting volunteers (75+)
    • Investing in key leaders to continue growing and improving our programs
    • Overseeing and implementing year-round weekend programming (one Saturday evening per month and every Sunday morning)
    • Leveraging relationships within and across ministries and campuses to best serve the congregation of Lutheran Church of Hope

  2. Creating special event opportunities for families to grow closer to Jesus and one another through:
    • Planning and executing events for families, such as Third Grade Bible Class, First Communion, Trunk or Treat, and more.

  3. Supporting families in our community through:
    • Working in conjunction with other ministry leaders to maximize our ability to equip parents as the primary faith nurturer in their children’s lives
    • Building relationships with kids, parents, and volunteers to deepen the connections within our church family
    • Finding new ways of reaching kids in our area who don’t yet have a church home

Secondary Functions

With the support of the Family Minister and Church Life team, the HopeKids Coordinator will also:

  • Meet regularly with the Family Minister for debrief, feedback, leadership development and planning
  • Attend weekly Hope West Des Moines staff meetings
  • Have a consistent presence at Lutheran Church of Hope West Des Moines church-wide and children’s ministry events (i.e. Christmas, Easter, Vacation Bible School, Taste of Hope, Daddy Daughter Dance, etc.) when necessary or as assigned
  • Support the mission, vision, values, and authority structure of Lutheran Church of Hope and the vision for multi-site ministry

Personal Responsibilities

  • Adhere to Lutheran Church of Hope Staff Covenant for spiritual, personal and professional relationships and behavior
  • Maintain a vital and growing personal walk with the Lord through committed Bible study, prayer and personal learning
  • Attend worship weekly in person at Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines

Skills, Education and Experience Required

  • Possess Christ-centered, joy-filled passion for ministry which flows from a vibrant personal relationship with Jesus Christ
  • Passion for children’s ministry and empowering families to disciple their children in partnership with the church
  • Experience planning and executing events
  • Experience working closely with a team of peers
  • Ability to supervise, inspire, and equip volunteers
  • Ability to prioritize and boundary ministry with personal and family life
  • Ability to lead, coordinate and manage multiple tasks, including behind the scenes and on-stage
  • Ability to grasp and adjust to new and changing situations
  • Work well with others, maintaining positive and effective relationships and communication with other staff and those attending Lutheran Church of Hope
  • Commitment to always reflect in the best possible light Lutheran Church of Hope, its staff, and the mission, vision, and values of its Constitution, and the church as a whole

Position Details

Hours: part-time; 25 hours per week; Sundays required
Pay and Benefits: Per agreed upon Compensation Package
