Principle Function

The Food Service Coordinator is responsible for carrying out the food service vision for Hope Waukee through the direction of the Hospitality and Events Coordinator and in cooperation with the campus team leaders.

Responsibilities 

Food Service

  • Oversee the planning, ordering, preparation, serving, and clean-up of all meals or food service needs at Hope Waukee
  • Work with Hospitality and Events Coordinator to review budget and expense planning
  • Maintain adequate inventory of food and drink for all food service needs for all ministry, utilizing church master calendar and Genesis form request process
  • Maintain clean, efficient, stocked, and organized kitchen spaces throughout the facility
  • Effectively communicate with ministry team leaders and staff concerning food service needs and changes, regularly responding to meeting or e-mail requests

Team Development and Management

  • Intentionally recruit, build, train, supervise, schedule, and support volunteer leaders and teams to provide food service for ministry events. Raise up team leaders to provide leadership for various mid and smaller-sized events and requests
  • Regularly meet with team leaders for support, coaching, training, and feedback
  • Effectively communicate with volunteers on a regularly basis for updates, encouragement, ongoing training opportunities, and details or changes.

The Food Service Coordinator will also:

  • Meet regularly with the Hope Waukee Hospitality and Events Coordinator for debrief, feedback, leadership development and planning.
  • Attend weekly Hope Waukee staff meeting, and any staff retreat and development days
  • Have a consistent presence at Hope Waukee worship and church-wide events (i.e. Christmas, Easter, Vacation Bible School, large missions events) when necessary or as assigned. 
  • Support the mission, vision, values, and authority structure of Lutheran Church of Hope and the vision for multi-site ministry.

Skills, Education, and Experience

  • Possess Christ-centered, joy-filled passion for ministry which flows from a vibrant personal relationship with Jesus Christ
  • Extremely strong organizational skills for administration and leadership of team-based ministry
  • Ability to supervise, inspire, and equip volunteers.
  • Ability to prioritize and boundary ministry with personal and family life
  • Ability to lead, coordinate and manage multiple tasks
  • Ability to work independently, effectively managing time without close supervision
  • Excellent communications skills, written and verbal
  • Experience preferred in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Ability to work weekends, various evenings, and holidays as scheduled in advance
  • Experience in food preparation for 100+ guests on a reoccurring basis
  • Experience with commercial-sized food service equipment
  • Ability to prepare and cook large-scale meals

Hours: Part-time (20 hours/week)
