The book of Revelation…what an assignment for writing a devotion! This book has been written about, analyzed, studied and talked about by so many people – people who are much more educated than myself.
I was intimidated by this….after all, who am I to be writing about this? Have you ever felt like that? Like you have been given a duty that you are not equipped for? I have felt like this often in my life. I decided to tackle this just like I have the other tasks. I quieted my mind and just started reading. I asked the Holy Spirit to show me what he needed to show me. Here is what happened….I was shown several things in this verse.
This verse reminded me that I am not the one whose words matter. It’s what Jesus Christ has done for me that matters. He has made us a kingdom of priests for God, his father, and freed us from our sins. I was reminded to not be afraid because I am in the presence of the One who is first and last… the Alpha and Omega. I was shown that if he can rise from the grave, I can be equipped to write devotions.
I don’t know what our lives are like, but I do know this…I know that people in this world today either think very low or very highly of themselves. We put undue pressure on ourselves to perform or have all the answers. That was never God’s intention for us. He reminds us that we are here to glorify what he has done, not what we have done. When we let the Holy Spirit lead us and remember who is on the throne, there is a peace about anything we set out to do.
Today, remind yourself who you are. You are the son or daughter of God the father. A royal priesthood. You were bought and cleansed by the blood of Jesus and as long as you remember who is first and last, live to glorify him, and believe he rose from the dead, things will go much smoother because the weight of the world is not on your shoulders. He rose from the dead and he holds the keys to your future.
Questions for reflection:
- When was a time you felt ill-equipped for something?
- Did you take time to pray and ask the Holy Spirit to help you?
- How does it feel to be part of a kingdom of priests for God?
