“Then he went down to Capernaum, a town in Galilee, and on the Sabbath, he taught the people. They were amazed at his teaching, because his words had authority. In the synagogue there was a man possessed by a demon, an impure spirit. He cried out at the top of his voice, “Go away! What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!”
Luke 4:31-34
I remember when I was in grade school, and at the start of every school year, we would receive our books for class. It was always cool to see who the upperclassman was who had the book before me. When you opened the book, you’d see a stamp or seal inside of the school to which it belonged. If the book got lost, anyone who opened it knew exactly where to return it because of the seal marked within.
Reminiscing about grade school and the seal marked within reminds me of the seal marked within us. When we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we are marked and sealed, and the Holy Spirit dwells within us. Not only does the Holy Spirit dwell within us, but all power and authority Jesus had to cast out demons and heal others resides in us, too.
Perhaps you’ve been in a season where you’ve felt lost. My encouragement is to open your heart and look at the seal with which you’ve been marked. You belong to Christ, and the same power lives in you. It’s up to the creator to speak to you about how he wants to use it in and through your life.
Reflection:
- Have you experienced the same power Jesus used to cast out demons in your own life?
- When was the last time you sat with God and asked, “God, I am yours. How would you like to display your power and works in and through me for your glory?”
