As a mom, I am amazed at how many Band-Aids I go through. Sometimes a cut or scrape really needs one, and other times we put one on simply because it offers comfort in the moment. However, that Band-Aid, no matter how large or impressive, doesn’t have the power to heal the wound. It provides protection, but only temporarily.
As we read our Scripture passage today from the book of Hebrews, that’s what the Old Covenant sacrifices were like. They were temporary solutions. Priests offered sacrifices year after year, and they provided relief, but they could never bring lasting healing or transformation.
But God, out of his great love, sent Jesus Christ, his one and only son, into this world. Jesus offered himself as the perfect sacrifice—not just a temporary covering, but forgiveness and healing “once for all time” (Hebrews 9:26, 28). Jesus’ death on the cross doesn’t just cover our sin; it removes it entirely. His resurrection brings life for all eternity.
God didn’t stop there. Just as Jesus promised his disciples the power of the Holy Spirit—the very presence of God dwelling within them—we too have the power and presence of the Holy Spirit that dwells within us, reminding us of who we are and whose we are. Holy Spirit guides us, comforts us, strengthens us, and transforms us, so we can live in the freedom and abundant life God has given us through the life, death, and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Reflection:
- In what areas of your life do you try to cover up or put a Band-Aid on problems instead of trusting God?
- How can you be more aware of the Holy Spirit’s presence and guidance this week?
