If you had to be known throughout the world for something, what would it be? Many want to be known for their wealth, their athletic abilities, or even that funny TikTok video that went viral and then became a meme. (If you don’t know what that is, you are better off!) Others end up known for their mistakes, their politics, their looks, their music, their business acumen. And when we want to become successful in these areas of life, we look to them to gain wisdom.

Solomon was famous throughout the world for his wealth, his accomplishments, his relationships, his possessions, and his success. He had it all, but it all began with wisdom. Jesus later said, “Wisdom is shown to be right by its results.” (Luke 7:35) Well, Solomon had results, and those results drew attention, showing the world how right it is to follow Israel’s God. Even the likes of the famous and successful Queen of Sheba came to Solomon because she knew he had something she didn’t. And when she saw it she knew it was Solomon’s wisdom and God’s favor.

But what are the results of the wisdom you have or have not followed? Imagine how many people see the lack of wisdom in a Christian’s life and think, “Why would I ever adopt their way of believing and acting?” What would happen if Christians became known for the results in their life? Perhaps the “Queen Sheba’s” of today would knock on our doors when we became famous, not for our opinions, but for our love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. (Galatians 5:22)

You don’t have to have worldly riches and success for people to seek after what you have in life. But you do need wisdom and the favor that comes from God.

Questions for reflection:

  1. What is something you would like to be sought after for? What role does your relationship with God play in becoming that kind of person?
  2. What is one thing you will do this week to gain more of God’s wisdom and insight into life?
