Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back from captivity.” Jeremiah 29:12-14

I remember as a young kid playing hide and seek outside in the dark in my cousin’s backyard and if you were found and got tagged you were it. Those were such fond memories I was reminded of as I read this Scripture. “When you look for me wholeheartedly you will find me.”

As we go through trials and tribulations, sometimes we feel like we are being held hostage by our situation or circumstance. The feeling of being held captive by Satan’s demise isn’t pleasant, yet we have the answer to find release – “When you look for me wholeheartedly you will find me. I will be found by you says the Lord. I will end your captivity and restore your fortress.” When was the last time you played hide and seek with God? Have you you found a place where no one could find you and you looked for God and didn’t leave until you found him? Have you found a place were you didn’t leave until you were wholeheartedly at peace?

My encouragement is for you to do just that. Find a spot where you can wholeheartedly seek him on a daily basis, so whatever chains the world tries to put you on are released and you can walk in the peace you were meant for.

Questions for reflection:

  1. Do you have a place where you can go in your home away from everyone to seek God?
  2. When you do spend time with God, how do you feel, what has changed from the time you walked in to the time you walked out?
