Romans 4 tells the story of a man whose faith gave birth to a promise. Abraham was old, Sarah barren—there was no natural reason to hope. But he believed. Not in himself, not in what he saw, but in what God had said.
“Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead … yet he did not waver through unbelief” (Romans 4:19-20). Faith doesn’t mean ignoring reality. It means trusting that God’s word is more powerful than what we see.
In Abraham’s heart, faith was conceived long before Isaac was born. He trusted that the God who creates from nothing could create something in him. That same faith can be birthed in us. Faith that stands even when the answer delays. Faith that grows in barren seasons. Faith that believes not because it makes sense, but because God is faithful.
Romans 4:17 says God “gives life to the dead and calls into being things that were not.” That’s what he did with Isaac. That’s what he does in us.
What promise are you carrying? What hope has God planted in your heart that seems impossible? Let faith rise—not in what you can do, but in who God is.
Reflection:
- What step of faith can you take this week to act out what God has spoken?
- Are you trusting God’s promises or your own understanding?
