In this book, the author is in poetic praise of his bride and her features that he is exclaiming in detail. He notices the details of the beauty God created in this woman. I know that for a moment in time we all stop and do this.

A new parent is in awe of every detail they see when holding their newborn baby. A child studies every feature of mom’s face as she feeds him or her and feels the embrace of her warm body. We even examine our things. A teenager can be so excited about every inch of a new car, they even pour over its instruction manual so they know each feature created for them to explore. A man sees the beauty in his grill, what he can make on it, all the seasonings that provide flavor and sauces that he marinades with, so he can provide a tasty meal for his family. A toddler picks a flower, the one you walk pass all the time and don’t notice, and hands it to you.

We all notice the detail in things that are “new” to us for a moment in time. However, things around us are always changing. I believe God longs for us to take a second, third, or even fourth look to find the beauty while we study his creation.

In a world full of busyness, distractions, and options, we desire to be noticed. As humans, we are longing for intimacy. The author is describing this vulnerability and a sense of “nakedness” where we feel unashamed and connected. When was the last time you felt this? When was the last time you provided a safe place for someone you love to be vulnerable, unashamed, fully present, and still see them the way God created them?

Questions for reflection:

  1. When was the last time you stopped to notice the beauty God has created around you?
  1. Is it easy for you to give praise to others and fill them up with words that speak life?
  1. Who can you speak life into today and remind them of who God has created them to be?
