Revelation 15 gives us a powerful glimpse into the holiness and justice of God, and while this vision can feel overwhelming, especially for those carrying deep wounds and longing for healing, John describes witnessing something incredibly mighty. While the seven angels holding the seven last plagues to bring God’s wrath to completion, the people were triumphantly singing, “Great and marvelous are your works, O Lord God, the Almighty.”

During this Advent season, we are encouraged to slow down, take a deep breath, and be fully present with God, our good and gracious heavenly Father who created each one of us on purpose for a purpose. While we spend the next few weeks leading up to Christmas waiting in anticipation for the birth of Jesus Christ and his promised return one day, may we be reminded that even in the pain, suffering, and uncertainty we endure this side of heaven, we can trust God. His plans are good.

As we dwell in God’s holy word, we read about a God of justice who will bring healing and restoration. He is a God who sees every wound, hardship, and injustice and has a response to it. A promise that he will come again to make all things right.

Our response, especially in this Advent season, is to draw near to him. To be still and find beauty in the waiting. To be reminded of his goodness, holiness, and steadfast love that endures forever. And to let our lives be a song of praise to the great and marvelous Lord God Almighty.

Reflection:

  • In the spaces and places where you feel overwhelmed and long for God’s presence, where do you feel God calling you to trust in him?
  • Take a moment to reflect on God’s goodness. What does that look like? What does that feel like? Where have you seen God’s goodness in your life?
  • As you journey through this Advent season, where is God encouraging you to see his goodness, and how can you point others to it?
