“A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold” (Proverbs 22:1).

A good name is like a tapestry woven over time, thread by thread. Each choice, each word, each act of kindness or grace adds a new color or pattern. The world’s gold and silver are flashy, and they tempt us to trade our integrity for fleeting wealth, but Proverbs 22 suggests the true treasure lies in the name you’re weaving.

Consider Jesus, the name above all names (Philippians 2:9-11). His life was woven with love, sacrifice, and grace. He didn’t chase after riches or power, but he remains the most influential person to ever walk the earth. Through his selfless love to lay down his life for us, he showed us that a good name rooted in God’s will is the most precious legacy we can leave.

Followers of Jesus are invited to weave our names into his story. With every act of love and every step of faith, we add to a legacy that reflects his character. Our name becomes more than just ours—it becomes a reflection of his, shining with the light of his love, and others will notice! The author of Proverbs 22 continues, “Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it” (Proverbs 22:6).

Ask yourself these questions: What name am I weaving? Does it echo the love of Jesus and his humility? Let us add to a legacy not for the sake of glorifying our name but his. His is the name that will endure forever, far beyond the fleeting riches of this world. Together, we’ll praise his name for eternity with all those we love with our choices, words, and acts of kindness and grace.
